Does Genie edit my FileMaker file automatically?
Not by default. Script results keep Preview, Copy, Create Script, and Apply visible; layout output is copied for manual paste; DATA work requires explicit confirmation. A separate beta can auto-create supported new scripts for trusted authenticated local MCP clients, and it never replaces an existing script.
Does Genie require an export or uploaded project snapshot?
No. Genie works through its native FileMaker integration against supported live context from the solution you have open. A periodic XML export or uploaded solution snapshot is not required setup.
What can Genie actually change?
Genie can prepare supported new scripts and scoped script edits, calculation drafts, layout-object output, and reviewed DATA work. The available action depends on the surface: Preview, Copy, Create Script, Apply, or Run. Some FileMaker work remains copy/paste or manual by design, and metadata exploration and SELECT queries stay read-only.
Can I use Codex, Claude, Cursor, or Klai?
Yes. Genie exposes an authenticated localhost MCP bridge for compatible local clients. They can inspect supported live context and stage CODE, DATA, or LAYOUT work in Genie’s Workbench instead of becoming a hidden apply channel.
Which FileMaker versions are supported?
Genie runs on macOS with FileMaker Pro 2025 or newer and Script Workspace available. FileMaker and the Genie host need Accessibility permission for capture and native preview/apply workflows. Check the current requirements page before installation.
What does the Genie + Klai workflow add?
Genie can prepare Klai HookSet scaffolds and the 57 documented Custom Functions used by the workflow. You still review, paste, and confirm the assets in FileMaker; enabling the workflow does not silently install or overwrite anything.
Which models can I use, and where does context go?
Use supported hosted providers, bring a compatible custom endpoint, or connect a local OpenAI-compatible model server. Hosted turns send task-relevant context to the provider you configure. Custom / Local can keep inference on infrastructure you control; activation still follows Genie’s licensing requirements.
